12th Annual Outreach Resource of the Year Recommendation (Missional Church)2014 Best Book of Missional Theology, from Byron Borger, Hearts and Minds BookstoreThe story of Christianity is a story of incarnation―God taking on flesh and dwelling among the people he created. God appointing and sending people as his body, his hands and feet. Disciples of Jesus bearing the good news even as they bear the marks of his passion. Whatever Christianity is, it is at least a matter of flesh and blood and the ends of the earth. And yet so much of contemporary Christian culture is rooted not in incarnation but in escape―escape from the earth to heaven, escape from the suffering of this world, escape even from one another. Christianity is increasingly understood as something personal, conceptual, interior, private, neighborless. If Jesus was God incarnate, the church is in danger of being excarnate.Michael Frost expertly and prophetically exposes the gap between the faith we profess and the faith we practice. And he offers new hope for how the church can fulfill its vocation: to be the hands and feet of Christ to one another and to our neighbors, to the ends of the earth and to the end of the age.

BONUS: The rest of the book is just as good!!!This is simply not another book on the incarnation of Christ or a plea to live like Christ, Frost has something special with Incarnate. The author beautifully articulates how "excarnate" our cultural has become, often in ways we simply cannot see nor do we really want to see. I love how Frost weaves real life examples of what an incarnational posture can look like with pop culture references of the excarnate life we tend to live. This book is worth its weight in gold. I have to be honest and say that I was given an advance copy of the audiobook (the reading performance is really good.) As I was listening to the book, I was astounded by it's content. So much in fact, that I had to order a print copy of the book so I can take proper notes and completely mark it up. Upon the listening and reading of this book, it has positioned itself in my top 20 books of all-time. After a second read, I would imagine it being in the upper ten. I foresee this being a resource I come back to often.Whether you desire to personally orient your life around incarnational living or help lead a church or group to live this way, this book is a great well of knowledge and wisdom. I highly recommend it!
