DESCRIPTION
Master storyteller P.W. Catanese begins the Books of Umber trilogy with Happenstance Found—now available in paperback—when twelve-yearold Happenstance awakens in a cave with no memory of who he is or how he came to be there. Lord Umber and his companions rescue Hap, and the group sets out on dangerous and unusual missions that continue in Dragon Games. Hap’s and Umber’s journeys take them to the corrupt kingdom of Sarnica, where Umber’s nemesis has acquired some dragon eggs. Umber wants to study a new magical species, but what starts as a quest for knowledge turns into a dangerous rescue operation. The deft plotting of these actionpacked, heart-stopping adventures will pique the imagination and leave readers anxious for the final installment.

I picked up this book as it is a Bluebonnet Award 2011 nominee for the State of Texas. I am a librarian at an elementary school and try to read as many books as possible so that I may recommend titles to my students. I am always looking for a good book especially for boys. This was terrific for both boys or girls.I really enjoyed reading this fantasy. To me, the author built a believable world with realistic characters. Cantanese pulled me into the book from the beginning and I felt like I was sitting on someone's shoulder watching what was going on. I love it when that happens and I felt like it was a satisfying story. Along the way, the characters grew as he developed the plot around them. I was excited to see that the following 2 books were available for me to read and I immediately started them. I would highly recommend reading this book (and the other 2) to any 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader (or older) depending on their reading skills. Teachers, you'd enjoy reading this book to your classes. Secretly, I am hoping this book will win the Bluebonnet award for 2011-2012.I was so impressed with the author I am looking for more to sink my teeth into and of course I will be buying these 3 books for my library.
