Between Citizen and State is an introduction to the legal dimensions of corporations and corporate law. Law professor and veteran lawyer Westbrook distinguishes what exactly a corporation is and what are the kinds of roles people play in corporations, with their legal duties and limits. He describes the legal difficulties of prosecuting or suing corporations, their owners, boards or managers over issues like conflicts of interests. Everyone should have to read this book in high school. After all corporations are all around us and are an integral part of our current economy but most of us understand them less well than government or small businesses. This book is not an anti-corporation or pro-corporation work. It just helps the reader understand the topic, including a few hints and conclusions about how corporations interact with the rest of society, and does not go beyond that scope. This book is also a great book for prospective law students who would like to familiarize themselves with this territory. Also highly recommended for social scientists.
