Our New Baby in the NICU is an excellent and informative book for families experiencing a NICU stay with older siblings at home. The book starts with some very helpful tips for families as they introduce the idea of the NICU to siblings. As a NICU social worker since 2006, I can say that this book is a true asset to many families. The story is written in simple language to explain the complexities of needs babies in the NICU face in developmentally appropriate language for young children. As a parent, I love that the book invites the child to write in their own names, along with baby's name too, making this book their own story. There are prompts at the end of the book asking the child to draw their baby and families. I can see many children loving to read this book at home with their families over and over while their baby sibling is in the NICU. Our New Baby in the NICU is written with much care and consideration of the sibling experience for families with a baby in the NICU. I highly recommend sharing this story with anyone who has a baby in the neonatal ICU.
